We are getting ready to celebrate Pentecost this coming Sunday and in preparation for this day I thought it would be good to look into the history of Pentecost. Where does it come from? What does it represent? So, from the New Testament in the book of the Acts of the Apostles in chapter 2 we receive a beautiful story of the Apostles with Mary in a room when "suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim."
How amazing that Mary the Mother of God was the first person to have the holy Spirit descend upon her alone when she conceived Jesus and then again she was there when the holy Spirit came down and filled the Apostles for the birth of the Church! Not only that she is Mother of the Church and Mother of Christ. A perfect example of humility! This feast takes place 50 days after the Resurrection of Christ and also represents the Sacrament of Confirmation. Pray that the Lord will send His holy Spirit down upon us at the end of this Easter season!
As Pope John Paul II said, "It is Jesus in fact that you desire when you dream of happiness, He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you. He is the beauty to which you are so attracted...He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life...It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives." We are committed to the youth of St Thomas More in their journey for faith!
The St. Thomas More Middle School Youth Ministry is a group of 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students desiring to grow in their Catholic Faith and develop faith based friendships. As our Mission Statement drives us to "go and make disciples" we are committed to growing in our faith through through weekly Crossfire meetings, retreats, events, small group activities, and service opportunities.
