Curriculum

The St. Thomas More Parish School core curriculum is designed to prepare students to succeed in a rigorous academic high school program.  The core curriculum, consisting of religion, language arts, mathematics, social studies, Spanish (taught in at all grade levels, core in grades 7 and 8), and science conforms to the guidelines of the Archdiocese of Denver.  St. Thomas More students also take courses in computer skills, music, art, and physical education.  Study skills, emphasizing the SQ3R method (study, question, read, recite, review), are embedded in each core curriculum course.  Learning objectives are taught in a spiral manner, building from year to year.

Measures of the successes of STM's curriculum:

-         Consistently reaching high scores on The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) tests, year after year

-         Continuously recognized as one of the top 10% schools nationally

-         Our students have achieved the President's Award for Educational Excellence

-         Each year a high percentage of students are accepted into competitive Catholic and private high schools and those students choosing to attend local public high schools are typically placed in honors course.

Additionally, students in Fifth and Eighth grades are administered the Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE) tests in the spring to measure knowledge of religion.  We recognize these achievements as successes but more importantly all of this data is analyzed and applied toward continuous curriculum improvement.
