Beta Club
Do you want to help others? Do you enjoy doing service projects and helping out people in need? Then consider the STM Beta Club. Beta is a leadership and service organization, with national headquarters in Spartanburg, SC. There are 250 junior and senior Beta chapters in the United States and international. The STM Beta chapter is open to students in Grades 6-8. To qualify, the students must have a 3.0 GPA and 3 Middle School teacher recommendations which will be given to the students in December after the Beta Information meeting. Presently there are 59 STM Betas and two faculty sponsors, Mr. Goerke and Mrs. Dineen, both of whom do a great job scheduling service projects for us to do that are meaningful and fun. The Betas began this school year working and assisting at the “back to school” picnic. In addition, to wish the teachers a faith-filled spiritual retreat, Betas wrote the teachers and staff notes, attached to little gift bags. We have purchased two-500 piece puzzles for Libby Bortz and St. Catherine’s Assisted Living Centers. These will be delivered in October. Betas are now discussing, and voting on, service projects for this fall. In the spring, Betas will make and deliver Spring Bags to the patients at area hospitals. I am enjoying my position as a Beta Club “Public Relations Representative” and I’m looking forward to a great year in Beta Club!
